Associate/Full Professor of Reading in Diverse Settings

Literacy scholars have engaged deeply with linguistic diversity and difference, other intersections of difference (race, culture, class, gender, etc.), and the inextricable link between multilingualism and multiliteracies. We seek candidates who engage in a robust program of reading research and scholarship that speaks to intersectional diversity and difference, including language and educational equity, and who are prepared to provide leadership in multiple areas, including teacher education and graduate reading-specific programs and certifications.
Successful candidates will join a vibrant area of languages and literacies with faculty members who are committed to centering their work on educational equity and social justice, teacher education, and human rights. We are open to a wide array of theoretical perspectives on and methodological approaches to educational research and scholarship.

Principal Duties include, but are not limited to:
* Establish a nationally and internationally recognized research agenda in reading education.
* Teach literacy and related language arts courses in the undergraduate Elementary Teacher Education Program and the Wisconsin State Reading Teacher and Reading Specialist Programs; certification courses on bilingual/ESL education would be an additional possibility.
* Advise graduate and undergraduate students.
* Engage in an active and externally funded program of research and scholarship regarding reading in diverse settings.
* Participating in shared faculty governance
* Providing leadership and service at the national, state, and local levels.

Minimum qualifications include:
* Earned doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction, Teaching and Learning, or a related educational field
* Research focused on reading education, and particularly its intersections with linguistic diversity, educational equity, and/or social justice
* Minimum of three years of experience teaching at the PK-12 levels, in or out of schools
* Evidence of a coherent program of research and scholarship
* Evidence of success in or potential for securing external funding to support research

Full Time: 100%
This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

This position is housed within the Department of Curriculum & Instruction in the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the flagship campus of the University of Wisconsin System. Our teacher education and certification programs that involve courses in, and ongoing collaboration with, faculty in literacies and languages include:
* Undergraduate Program in Elementary Education (includes PK-9 literacy methods courses and electives; integrating literacy methods across all PK-9 elementary education content courses; and a PK-12 ESL certification strand choice).
* Masters Program for K-12 World Languages Education and 9-12 certification programs in other content areas that all include the requirement that students in these programs work towards an ESL certificate
* Masters Program in Literacy (includes Wisconsin Reading Teacher and Reading Specialist Licensure coursework)
* Two Bi/multilingual Certification Programs
