Position Highlights

The Materials Science & Engineering (MSE) Department in the College of Engineering seeks to hire a qualified and ambitious assistant research professor with a tentative start date of Fall 2025. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible research-focused faculty position on the career track. The ideal applicant is expected to be an experienced researcher capable of writing grant proposals and conducting/leading projects in multiple research areas, including but not limited to advanced manufacturing, hypersonics, non-destructive testing, big data analytics, materials modeling, and microstructure characterization. The candidate will also work and collaborate with faculty in the MSE Department with minor teaching duties in the classroom and in workshops. This position follows an academic appointment with the opportunity to seek additional supplemental compensation through additional sponsored research projects.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage sponsored research projects by serving as a Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and senior personnel on research projects.
  • Conduct research, perform experiments, analyze data with graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate research assistants.
  • Outreach activities, including but not limited to presenting the research outcomes at local and national conferences.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and submit grant proposals/scope of work to funding agencies.
  • Classroom and workshop teaching.
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD. degree at the time of hire in Materials Science and Engineering or a closely related discipline and must provide education credentials during the offer discussions.
  • The selected candidate must provide education credentials during the offer discussions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior research experience in materials modeling and non-destructive testing.
  • Prior participation as PI or co-PI in funded research projects.
  • Experience as a researcher with capabilities of writing grant proposals and conducting/leading projects in multiple research areas, including but not limited to advanced manufacturing, hypersonics, big data analytics, microstructure characterization.
