Job Summary

The University of Texas at Tyler (UT Tyler) Department of Civil and Construction Engineering and Management in the College of Engineering (COE) is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Civil Engineering/Materials starting as early as January 2026.

The department is particularly interested in applicants whose experience, practice, and/or research enhance the sustainability of the built environment and the stewardship of natural resources. We invite applicants with expertise in Materials Engineering with a focus on sustainable or advanced infrastructure materials, Smart Cities, Infrastructure Sensing, or Civil Systems Data Analytics, or Coastal and Climate Resilience.

Candidates in other emerging areas that align with the department’s vision and strategic goals will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities 

Teaching, research, and outreach mission of the department and performing assigned administrative duties 

Maintain regular on-campus presence.

Attend departmental meetings.


Required Qualifications 

Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering from an accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications 

Professional and academic experience.

Potential for sustaining a vigorous externally funded research program and a dynamic portfolio of graduate and undergraduate educational competencies.

Professional Engineering License, or on track for license.

About The College of Engineering

The Civil Engineering program was established in 2005 on the main campus in Tyler, TX. In 2013, the College of Engineering inaugurated the Houston Engineering Center (HEC) on the Alief Hayes Campus of Houston Community College, offering junior, senior, and graduate-level courses in civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering and construction management. 

 

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
