Position Description:
Assistant Professor of Bioethics and Medical Humanities
The Center for Bioethics and Medical Humanities in the Institute for Health and Humanities at the Medical College of Wisconsin invites applications for a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor. The position is available October 1, 2026 and thereafter.
The successful candidate will join a faculty with diverse expertise and interests in bioethics and medical humanities who engage in teaching, research and service activities. The new faculty member will be expected to teach in the bioethics graduate program, in the bioethics and medical humanities sessions within the medical school curriculum, and in the elective bioethics and medical humanities scholarly concentration for medical students; advise graduate and medical students on scholarly activities; provide ethics education for residents, other health professionals and community groups, as requested; support the Center’s clinical ethics-related activities, including ethics consultation and ethics education at partner health care institutions; and engage in independent and collaborative scholarship and research in bioethics and medical humanities.

Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate will have a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) with expertise in bioethics. Candidates with a terminal degree in a related discipline (e.g. MD, DO, JD, or equivalent) and a Master’s degree in bioethics or a related field, or who have completed a clinical ethics fellowship or have substantial experience in ethics consultation will also be considered.
- Demonstrated teaching experience at the graduate or medical school level in bioethics or a related field is required. Research, grant writing and publication experience is preferred. The clinical ethics-related responsibilities of this position require competence in clinical ethics consultation skills.
- Candidates must have excellent interpersonal skills, be able to work effectively both independently and in a team environment, and possess strong written and oral communication skills.

Froedtert Hospital
Froedtert Hospital, located adjacent to the Medical College, is a premier academic medical center and the primary adult teaching affiliate of the Medical College of Wisconsin. It is a 776-bed facility and has an adult Level I Trauma Center. The hospital is nationally recognized for excellence in numerous specialties, including gastroenterology, cancer care, cardiac surgery, and urology.
