Position Details:
The Department of Animal Science within the College of Agricultural, Human and Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS) at Washington State University (WSU) invites candidates to apply for an Academic Advisor. As the Academic Advisor, you will provide advanced-level professional advising to students in the Department of Animal Science. You will be responsible for providing guidance, advice, and support to faculty and staff in all matters regarding undergraduate student advising and program advising records. You will also serve as primary contact for advising inquiries, student graduation, undergraduate advising policy and procedures, and administration of the undergraduate advising system for the program. May supervise time-slip personnel. The successful candidate will begin as either an Academic Coordinator/Advisor 1 or Academic Coordinator/Advisor 2 depending on your level of experience.


    Additional Information:
    This is a full time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible .
    Monthly Salary:
    Academic Coordinator/Advisor 1: $3,750.85 - $5,397.56
    Academic Coordinator/Advisor 2: $4,061.90 - $6,092.84
    Commensurate with experience and qualifications. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 , the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

    Required Qualifications:
    Academic Coordinator/Advisor 1:
    • Bachelor's degree and two (2) years academic advising or related experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional academic advising experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year for year basis.

    Academic Coordinator/Advisor 2:
    • Bachelor's degree and three (3) years academic advising or related experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional academic advising experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. Positions who will lead or supervisor will require one or more years of full-time experience leading or directing the work of others.

    Required Qualifications for All Candidates:
    • Accreditations: continuous Level 2 Certification through WSU Academic Advising Association (ACADA)
    • Ability and willingness to occasionally travel, work weekends, and work after regular business hours.
    • Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.
    • Demonstrated Experience advising undergraduate students
    • Demonstrated Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
    • Demonstrated Ability to use MS Office Suite such as Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
    • Experience interpreting and administering academic policies.

    Preferred Qualifications for All Candidates:
    • Master's degree in related field
    • Experience providing student services in higher education institution.
    • Understanding of animal science, biological sciences and/or agriculture.
    • Knowledge of WSU student computer systems such as myWSU, OBIEE, Microsoft Bookings, Microsoft Teams, and Outlook.
    • Strong public speaking skills and the ability to develop and deliver engaging and informative presentations to students and stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated experience working with individuals from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
    • Demonstrated Ability to apply WSU policies and procedures as related to student records and undergraduate program requirements.
