Applications are invited for the position of Researcher in Microscopy Image Analysis.
The position is available for a fixed term of 12 months and is full time.
The post holder will develop computational pipelines for the analysis of single-molecule microscopy data. Research in the Gruszka Lab centres on physical and molecular mechanisms of biological processes using interdisciplinary strategies, including single-molecule imaging, biochemical and biophysical approaches. The post holder will be an integral member of the Gruszka Lab providing crucial support in image processing and quantitative data analysis for two projects: (1) Exploiting protein import to interrogate energy transduction across the bacterial cell envelope and (2) Understanding how epigenetic information is maintained during DNA replication.
The researcher will support the group in their quantitative analysis of single-molecule microscopy data and will develop and/or tailor analytical tools and resources appropriate to the work in collaboration with members of the research team. They will keep record of programme development, statistical analysis and results which may be used for relevant sections of manuscripts, presentations and other means of disseminating findings. Additional duties for this position include day to day planning of work, attending scientific seminars and contributing ideas to the project.
Applicants should possess a Master’s degree in physics, mathematical biology, computational biology or a related subject. They should have good skills in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB or R, and experience in image processing and analysis. Excellent communication and organisation skills, and the ability to keep detailed work records and report on progress at regular intervals are essential.
Familiarity with single-molecule approaches and experience in optical microscopy and biophysical data analysis are desirable but not essential.
The University of Oxford and the Department of Physics offer an inclusive and diverse environment and workplace. We strongly encourage applications from all backgrounds and genders to apply.
For questions relating to this position please contact Dominika Gruszka (dominika.gruszka@physics.ox.ac.uk )
Only applications received before midday 1 August 2025 can be considered. You will be required to upload a brief statement of research interests, CV and details of two referees as part of your online application.
