Research Assistant (Gilbertson Group) (Fixed Term)

We are seeking a motivated and skilled in vivo Research Assistant to join the group of Professor Richard Gilbertson at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute. The Gilbertson lab is dedicated to understanding the origins and progression of paediatric brain tumours and developing new therapeutic strategies. The lab combines genetic engineering, molecular biology, and translational research to investigate the cellular and molecular mechanisms driving tumour development.

In this role, you will support a team of scientists using genetically engineered mouse models (GEMMs) and transplantable tumour models (e.g., orthotopic, patient-derived xenografts) to study cancer biology and therapeutic response. You will play a key role in helping establish, monitor and analyse in vivo models, working collaboratively with postdoctoral researchers, students, and other research staff in the group.

The successful candidate will hold a B.Sc. or M.Sc. in a relevant discipline (e.g., Biomedical Sciences, Oncology, or Neuroscience), and a Home Office Personal Licence (Modules A, B and C or equivalent). They should have demonstrable experience in a range of in vivo techniques, including the establishment and monitoring of tumour models in small animals, and experience in colony management. Proficiency in performing animal procedures and related experimental techniques is essential. In addition to in vivo responsibilities, the role may also involve supporting laboratory-based experiments such as tissue processing for multi-omic studies, Western blotting, cell culture, and immunohistochemistry. The ideal candidate will be proactive, adaptable, and capable of working effectively under pressure, with excellent communication skills and a strong focus on teamwork and accurate data recording.
