About the Role
This role involves the leading of research activities on an exciting Advanced Research and Innovation Agency (ARIA) Scalable Neural Interfaces seed grant. This project will focus on the creation of cell scaffolded electronics targeting high neural coupling through engineered cellular adhesion. This role will require skills in polymer synthesis and characterization including high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), mass spectrometry (MS), and electron microscopy (SEM and TEM). This role will work full time alongside the PI to deliver this ambitious project that is aimed at pushing the boundaries of neural interface research towards an engineered biology approach.
About You
The successful candidate will hold a PhD in chemistry, molecular biology, or biomedical engineering (or a related field). They will have experience with polymer synthesis and characterization using HPLC, MS, and electron microscopy. Additional desirable skills are experience with in vitro cell culture (especially neural cells), and electrochemistry. Due to the short timeline of this project it is also desirable to have a candidate with strong self-motivation and ability to critically analyze and solve problems in the neural interfacing field
About the School/Department/Institute/Project
This role is held in the School of Engineering and Materials Science at Queen Mary University of London. As part of this project you will be part of a thriving biomedical engineering research environment (Centre for Bioengineering) and you will have access to career progression support provided by the School to promote the success of all post-doctoral researchers. Additionally, you will collaborate with colleagues in Sustainable Engineering and the School of Physical and Chemical Science who are world leading experts on conjugated polymer chemistry and function.
