About the Role
Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join Dr Gallipoli’s team (https://www.bartscancer.london/staff/dr-paolo-gallipoli/ ). We study the biological mechanisms underpinning myeloid leukaemia development, progression and therapy resistance with a strong focus on the role of metabolism (Dembitz, Leukemia 2024;Woodley, Nature Communication 2023&Gallipoli, Blood 2018). The successful applicant will investigate how microenvironmental and organismal metabolism affects leukaemia cell intrinsic targetable dependencies with the aim to improve current therapeutics efficacy.
About You
We are seeking highly-motivated researchers holding or near completion of a PhD in a relevant biological or life sciences subject. The ability to develop independent insights into the project, solve complex problems and willingness to work flexibly within a team to achieve the project demands are needed. Experience with flow cytometry, primary cell culture, molecular biology, animal work, metabolic/transcriptional profiling is highly desirable.

The Barts Cancer Institute (BCI) is a Cancer Research UK Centre of Excellence whose work aims to transform the lives of those with and at risk of cancer through innovative research in the laboratory, in patients and in populations. It is one of six institutes within The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FMD) BCI is internationally renowned in many areas of cancer research and it combines ground-breaking basic research with the expertise of clinicians and clinician scientists from the Centre for Experimental Cancer Medicine and the Barts NHS Trust to achieve improvements in cancer patient care. BCI is also a partner in the CRUK City of London Major Centre (together with UCL, Kings and the Francis Crick Institute) which is a Centre of Excellence in Biotherapeutics. BCI is committed in supporting and developing future cancer researchers through its extensive postgraduate training.

The post is based at the Centre for Haemato-Oncology, Barts Cancer Institute, Charterhouse Square Campus. It is full time, fixed term for 12 months, with an expected start date of October 2025. The starting salary will be Grade 4 (Sp 26-33), in the range of Grade 4, SP 26-33, £37,887 - £45,974 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
