Post-doctoral Fellow (Political Psychology/Political Science/ Social-Affective Neuroscience) at the Centre for the Politics of Feelings
The University of London
The University of London is the UK’s largest provider of international distance and online learning and the convenor of a federation of 17 London-based universities, many of which are among the highest-ranking universities in the world.
The Role
The Centre for the Politics of Feelings (https://www.politics-of-feelings.com/ ), a partnership between the School of Advanced Study, University of London and Royal Holloway, University of London, is hiring one Post-doctoral Fellow in Political Psychology and/or Social-Affective Neuroscience. The Fellow will develop an innovative and interdisciplinary research project that is aligned with the Centre’s research aims.
The Centre for the Politics of Feelings addresses, from a multi-disciplinary perspective, how emotions and their underlying neurophysiological mechanisms shape political attitudes and behaviour, as well as how politics shapes and exploits our affect and emotions.
This Fellowship is addressed to early career researchers with a PhD in psychology, political science or social-affective neuroscience completed or near completion prior to commencement of employment. The fellowship is available from September 1st 2025 or soon thereafter, for an initial period of 1 year and presents an exciting opportunity for the successful applicants to undertake novel research in the areas of affect, emotions and politics.
For this fellowship, we are particularly interested in applicants who are interested in conducting quantitative research to understand the bidirectional links between health and politics: what are the health dividends or health costs of politics and/or how does good or poor health influence people’s political attitudes and behaviour. However, other relevant areas of research on politics and emotions will also be considered. The successful applicant will be supported in conducting quantitative research (e.g. multinational surveys, online experiments, analysis of existing data sets, computational textual analysis, etc) in this area of research. Expertise in the broader research areas of emotions and politics and in at least one of the aforementioned methods are essential.
