We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to support the University in leading the development of a joint strategy for Welsh Medium Provision within the Schools in the College of Physical Sciences and Engineering. 

Work will be varied, you will gather data and knowledge, provide guidance and support and identify sustainable measures to work towards institutional goals that will also have College-wide impact.  You will advise on the Welsh Language provision on strategic developments and plans, ensure that the provision and enhancements are developed across the Schools within the College and work with Yr Academi Gymraeg to proactively change the delivery according to customer requirements.  

You will require experience of managing and delivering a successful project, have knowledge of HE administrative systems and experience in developing new processes and procedures.  You will need to be able to solve expansive problems using initiative and creativity and you will need to deliver specific projects and supervise short term project teams. You will also need to communicate conceptually detailed and complex information effectively and professionally to a wide range of people.  

Working in both English and Welsh is essential for this role although we can provide Welsh language support as needed.  A qualification in Welsh is not required.

This post is full-time, fixed for 6 months from commencement of the post.  Internal secondment opportunity. 

Salary: £40,247 - £45,163 per annum (Grade 6)

Job Description

To support the University in leading the development of a joint strategy for Welsh Medium Provision within the Schools in the College of Physical Sciences and Engineering, gathering data and knowledge, providing guidance and support, and identifying sustainable measures to work towards institutional goals.

Key Duties

  • Facilitate and co-ordinate a Welsh Language Development working group in the College of Physical Sciences and Engineering, planning, organising and delegating tasks and ensuring timely completion of the strategy.
  • Gather and analyse data to inform decisions, establishing basic trends and patterns in data and creating reports as appropriate.
  • Establish working relationships with key contacts to ensure role objectives are met, developing appropriate communication links with the University’s Schools/Directorates and outside bodies as required.
  • Develop networks across the department and school to ensure the success of the working group’s objectives and long term plans.
  • Provide professional advice and guidance on Welsh Language processes and procedures to internal and external customers that will have College-wide impacts, advising on the impact of Welsh Language provision on strategic developments and plans.
  • Investigate and undertake analysis of specific issues within Welsh Language development project plans, creating recommendations, supported by advances within Welsh Language provision.
  • Identify and help develop and deliver any necessary support and training within project plans associated with Welsh Language enhancements.
  • Undertake a variety of administrative duties to support the project.
  • Undergo personal and professional development that is appropriate to and which will enhance performance.
  • Take responsibility for resolving issues independently  where they fall within set role objectives.
  • Ensure that the provision and enhancements are developed across the Schools within the College of Physical Sciences and Engineering and work with Yr Academi Gymraeg to proactively change the delivery according to customer requirements.
  • Create specific working groups from colleagues across the University to achieve Welsh medium provision enhancements and objectives.  
  • Plan and deliver specific small scale projects, co-ordinating and supervising project teams created as needed.
  • Instruct and guide other employees across the University with regards to delivery of Welsh medium provision and working with Yr Academi Gymraeg to do so.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

Qualifications and Education

  • Degree/NVQ 4 or equivalent Professional membership/experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Fluent in Welsh, written and oral.
  • Experience of undertaking a project management role and delivering a successful project outcome.
  • Knowledge of HE administrative systems and processes and proven experience in developing new processes and procedures.
  • Customer Service, Communication and Team Working
  • Ability to communicate conceptually detailed and complex information effectively and professionally with a wide range of people.
  • Proven ability to develop networks in order to contribute to long term developments.
  • Evidence of ability to explore customers’ needs and adapt the service accordingly to ensure a quality service is delivered.

  • Evidence of ability to solve expansive problems using initiative and creativity; identify and propose both practical and innovative solutions.
  • Evidence of ability to undertake and deliver specific projects and supervise short term project teams.
  • Evidence of ability to plan and work with a wider network, over extended time periods, with an awareness of aligning multiple priorities and interests.
