We seek an ambitious, experienced and self-motivated individual with experience in multi-omics bioinformatics analysis, to lead the new Advanced Bioinformatics and Computation (ABC) group. The post-holder will provide leadership, management and strategic oversight of the bioinformatics service provision across the Faculty. They will drive alignment between the Faculty’s Technology Platforms, and other centres of bioinformatics research as well as researchers in individual research groups. They will ensure bioinformatics expertise across Manchester is better connected across the Technology Platforms and the wider Faculty. They will push the boundaries of our current bioinformatics support by developing novel methods.

The ABC group is responsible for integrative ‘omics analysis, including data from high-throughput sequencing experiments (incl. RNA-Seq, DNA-seq, ATAC-seq and ChIP-seq) and from single-cell and spatial omics experiments, including high dimensional imaging and mass cytometry. The successful applicant will interact with academic researchers and the Faculty’s Technology Platforms, which offer researchers access to and training in the use of cutting-edge technologies including sequencing, single-cell and spatial omics technologies, imaging, proteomics and integration of diverse data including clinical data.

The successful applicant must have a good working knowledge of high-throughput analysis methods for biological data (including but not limited to sequencing data). Experience of programming in a language relevant for Bioinformatics is essential (e.g. R, Python, C/C++ or Java) as are good communication skills and ability to network with diverse groups of researchers. You should also have good recording and curation skills to enable high project throughput. Candidates with strong statistical data analysis skills are particularly encouraged to apply.
