We are looking for an junior expert in modelling of metabolic networks, with applications in neurology and cancer


The position

This position falls within the field of systems biology, i.e. mathematical modelling of biological systems. More specifically, you will work with mathematical modelling of metabolic networks, using theory from metabolic flux analysis of mass spectrometry data. You will also look at other large-scale and multi-omics data. You will be looking at applications both in neurological diseases such as stroke and Alzheimer's, as well as various forms of cancer. Apart from pure research, there will also be some research coordination tasks within the EU project STRATIF-AI.


The person we need

The following education, experience and expertise are required:

  • A qualification equivalent to a Master's degree within biomedicine, including at least some aspects of engineering and mathematics
  • Experience and interest in research within the intersection between biomedicine and mathematical modelling
  • Good knowledge of spoken and written English

In addition, the following education, experience and expertise will strengthen an application:

  • Particular merit will be given to candidates with experience in mathematical modelling of metabolic networks based on mass spectrometry data
  • Completed research preparatory course(s)

The employment

Fixed-term employment, limited to a maximum of 12 months.

Starting date is September 1, 2025 or determined by agreement.


The workplace

You will work in the Integrative Systems Biology research group, at the department for biomedical engineering at Linköping University. This is a highly cross-disciplinary research group, with competence within both mathematical modelling, software development, and both experimental and clinical research.
