You will take part in research activities at the Division of Children’s and Women’s Health (BKH) , Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences, Linköping university under supervision of Professor Johnny Ludvigsson .
Research project
The research will mainly be based on ABIS (All Babies in Southeast Sweden; (www.abis-studien.se ), a birth cohort of 17 000 individuals born Oct 1st 1997-Oct 1st 1999, who have been followed with regular questionnaires and biological samples (a new follow-up is ongoing). Several national registers are connected such as the Swedish National Diagnosis register, the Drug prescription register.
ABIS is founded and still leads by Johnny Ludvigsson, Senior Professor of Pediatrics, head of the research group. The ABIS study has so far resulted in >130 scientific publications, and 15 PhD Thesis based on ABIS. The main areas have so far been studies on the development of Type 1 diabetes, but also studies on celiac disease, JIA, IBD, autism, obesity, allergy and recently also psoriasis.
The selected scholar will be involved in biostatistical/epidemiological research on the etiology of Type 1 diabetes and other immune-mediated diseases.
Besides ABIS, the scholar will also be able to get involved in the EU-project INITIALISE, with the objective of elucidating how exposures and genome impact gut microbiome, host immune system and metabolism, and how the interplay of these factors impact life-course health, especially immune-mediated diseases, behavioural outcomes and metabolic outcomes.
Qualifications and requirements
Scholarships can only be awarded to foreign citizens with a doctoral degree or equivalent obtained in a country other than Sweden. The date of the doctoral degree must be no more than four years before the application deadline, exceptions are made for e.g. parental or sick leave. The applicant must not have been employed by Linköping University previously.
Scholarship may not consist solely of research collaboration with a mutual exchange of methodological and technical expertise but must also contain a well-defined training element and a qualification plan must be established for the scholarship period.
Biostatistical competence and experience in working with large databases is required. The candidate is expected to partake in design of the epidemiological studies, statistical work (SPSS but also other programs such as R), presentations and preparation of publications. A strong publication record is meriting.

Appointment and Conditions
Appointment is for one year initially with the possibility to extend for another year. A scholarship at Linköping University cannot exceed two years in total.
The scholarship amounts to SEK 28,500:-/month (tax-free) (~€ 2,650/month). Funding can be available to participate in conferences.
