Subject description
The Nanochemistry and Spectroscopy group (https://www.chemphys.lu.se/research/groups/baranov-group/) at the Division of Chemical Physics is seeking a post-doctoral researcher to study nanomaterials, self-assembly, and collective phenomena. We seek an individual with expertise, interest, and motivation to make an impact in one of the three areas of research:
- Nanocrystal synthesis and self-assembly
- Spectroscopy and quantum optics of collective photoluminescence
- Scattering and diffraction studies of nanomaterials
The specific scientific project will be refined in the discussion with the applicant. The position is funded by the European Research Council Starting Grant “Prometheus: Engineering of Superfluorescent Nanocrystal Solids.”
Solution-processed nanomaterials, including nanoparticles, mesocrystals, and thin films, provide a promising and cost-effective platform for optoelectronics and quantum technologies. The potential of the nanomaterials is further expanded when self-assembly is used to organize nanoscale building blocks into hierarchical structures that exhibit collective properties such as superradiance, superfluorescence, and enhanced exciton transport. Future breakthroughs in this field will depend on fundamental insights and going beyond single-component superstructures. Key goals include deepening our understanding of structural details and self-assembly mechanisms, identifying robust experimental signatures of collective properties, exploring practical applications, and utilizing artificial intelligence and machine learning to aid in this process.
Work duties
The main duties involved in a post-doctoral position is to conduct research. Teaching may also be included, but up to no more than 20% of working hours. The position shall include the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning.
The work duties will include:
- Research within the subject area.
- Communication and dissemination of the results.
- Supervision of degree projects and doctoral students.
- Administration related to the work duties listed above
Qualification requirements
Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, in materials science, chemistry, physics, or a related discipline, completed no more than three years before the date of employment decision. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.
Additional requirements:
- Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
- Documented experience with coding for data analysis and interpretation
- Documented experience in one or more of the following areas:
- colloidal nanocrystal synthesis and characterization
- optical spectroscopy, construction, and use of optical setups
- scattering methods (x-rays, neutrons), experimental design, and diffraction data analysis
Assessment criteria and other qualifications
This is a career development position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in a career, and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their research qualifications and potential as researchers. Particular emphasis will be placed on research skills within the subject.
For appointments to a post-doctoral position, the following shall form the assessment criteria:
- A good ability to develop and conduct high-quality research
- Documented experience within the subject area
- Teaching skills
Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
Terms of employment
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of 2 years. The start date is October 1, 2025 or as agreed. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow”) between Lund University, SACO-S and OFR/S, dated 1st February 2022.
Instructions on how to apply
Applications shall be written in English and be compiled into a PDF-file containing:
- résumé/CV, including a list of publications
- cover letter describing your interest in this position
- contact information of at least two references,
- copy of the doctoral degree certificate, and other documents that you wish to be considered.
