Job description

The Department of Zoology has a long-standing reputation for excellence in tertiary education and has an establishedrecord with research in the fields of aquatic health including toxicology, fish parasitology, fish histology and histopathology, freshwater ecology, cave and groundwater ecology, molecular genetics and systematics, as well as comparative respiratory morphology.

Description:

The department current has a vacant position on a Professor / Associate Professor level in Zoology or related field. Apart from presenting lectures in Zoology and/or Physiology, the appointee will be expected to conduct research, postgraduate supervision and produce accredited research outputs as well as being actively involved in community engagement activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead existing or new research groups.
  • Secure and manage internal and external research funds.
  • Teaching in Zoology and/or Physiology (undergraduate and Honours level).
  • Administrative duties as required by the HOD.
  • Conduct research and supervise postgraduate students (Masters and Doctoral).
  • Steer research projects independently.
  • Establish and sustain research output in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Establish national and international research collaborations.
  • Network with industry and research institutions.
  • Community service and advancing of the discipline.

Minimum requirements

Professor

  • Academic qualifications: PhD (Physiology or Zoology or related field) or equivalent qualification.
  • Established and sustained research output in peer reviewed journals.
  • Proven track record of supervising both Masters and Doctoral students to completion.
  • Proven record in securing external research funds.
  • Steer research project/s independently.
  • Teaching experience at tertiary level.
  • Proven record of national/international collaboration.
  • Specialization in Ecophysiology or related field

Associate Professor

  • Academic qualifications: PhD (Physiology or Zoology, or related field) or equivalent qualification.
  • Established and sustained research output in peer reviewed journals.
  • Proven track record of supervising both Masters and Doctoral students to completion.
  • Proven record of securing external research funds.
  • Teaching experience at tertiary level.
  • Proven record of national/international collaboration.
  • Specialization in Ecophysiology or related field
