Job description
The Department of Education Leadership and Management is one of five departments in the Faculty of Education at UJ. The Department endeavours to fulfil the vision, mission and strategic objectives of UJ with a focus on preparing students to be leading practitioners by dynamically shaping education leadership and management. The staff are committed to providing innovative and quality teaching and learning, and promoting contextually relevant leadership and management research, thinking and practice.
Responsibilities:
- Involvement in curriculum development and teaching in the department’s online programmes i.e Honours, Masters, and Advanced Diploma in School Leadership and Management.
- Involvement in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in contact, blended and online modes of delivery.
- Research supervision of Honours, Master’s and Doctoral postgraduate students in the field of education management and leadership
- Lead national and international research projects
- Procure funding for research
- Involvement in core activities of the department such as academic administration, research, short-course development and marketing.
- Involvement in community engagement and continuous professional development of leadership at school, district and senior management levels.
Minimum requirements
Minimum Requirements for Associate Professor:
- Applicable PhD/DEd/DPhil degree
- At least five (5) years' teaching experience at the tertiary level
- Experience in blended/fully online teaching
- Sustained accredited research output (in local and international journals and books/ book chapters)
- Experience in leading research and/or leadership development projects
- Experience in postgraduate supervision at Masters and Doctoral level
- NRF rating OR research output commensurable with an NRF rating
- Procuring of research funding
Minimum Requirements for Senior Lecturer:
- Applicable PhD/DEd/DPhil degree
- At least five (5) years teaching experience at the tertiary level
- Experience in blended/fully online teaching
- Sustained accredited research output (in local and international journals and books/ book chapters)
- Experience in postgraduate supervision at Masters level
Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:
- Excellent written and verbal English communications skills
- Good planning and organisational skills
- Good interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to collaborate with colleagues
- An outstanding classroom practitioner with the ability to use a range of technology-enhanced tools
- Well-developed scholarship of teaching and learning
- Adept at teaching and development of materials for online education
Recomendations:
- Collaboration with leading scholars in the field of education leadership and management
- Experience in the development and delivery of on-line programmes will be a strong recommendation
- Teaching/leadership experience at school/district level
