The School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineeri​ng and Biotechnology (CCEB) invites applications for the position of Project Officer in Prof Ling’s group.

The Project Officer will take on a significant role in developing surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) platforms for molecular detection.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop novel plasmonic materials and SERS platforms with high enhancement factors to improve analytical performance

  • Synthesize nanoparticles and fabricate SERS chips, followed by performance testing

  • Conduct experimental studies on analyte–probe molecule interactions across SERS-active substrates, supported by computational simulations

  • Construct machine learning models for qualitative and quantitative analysis of gaseous samples

  • Analyze spectra using Python or similar programming tools to support data interpretation

  • Culminate in the fabrication of ultrasensitive and specific SERS substrates for molecular identification

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field

  • Experience with laboratory research, experimental techniques, and data analysis

  • Background in nanoparticle synthesis, SERS platform fabrication, and surface functionalization

  • Prior experience working in a plasmonic lab, especially on SERS platform development

  • Proficiency in Python or similar software for spectra or data analysis

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
