NIE invites suitable applications for the position of Assistant Manager or Manager, Science of Learning in Education Centre (SoLEC) Office. SoLEC is to be a key institutional mechanism for advancing NIE’s vision of leading the future of education. SoLEC complements NIE's existing Education Research with state-of-the-art Science of Learning (SoL) research and modelling techniques in order to advance knowledge on learning and its underlying mechanisms. This is a contract position till 31 Mar 2028.

Responsibilities

Personal Assistant

  • Screening requests and scheduling of calendar for Centre Director

  • Clarifying submissions before Centre Director endorses requests or applications

  • Finding solutions for Centre Director for systems or other related issues

  • Attending seminars &/or meetings including note taking as requested by Centre Director

Admin-HR

  • Preparing and coordinating Research Centre-level (RC-level) research, admin, faculty recruitment including scheduling interviews & drafting recommendation for appointment

  • Preparing and coordinating Strategic Growth Areas-Science of Learning (SGA SoL) strategic hire recruitment matters including scheduling interviews, seeking references, etc

  • Preparing and coordinating RC-level scholars applications and liaison

  • Preparing and coordinating visiting consultant appointments including logistics for their flight, accommodation, programme and payment

  • Working with the Assistant Centre Director(s) to review and address personnel matters before escalating them to the Deputy or Centre Director as needed.

  • Provide advice on admin-hr related matters

  • Coordinating RC-level annual staff appraisal & calibration meetings

  • Initiating liaison and discussion on potential staff secondment to SoLEC

  • Acting as contact point for Office for Research for admin-hr related matters

General and Course/Student Administration

  • Course administrator for SoL minor courses and administrator for student matters

  • Organising and supporting the organization of meetings, webinars & symposiums including planning of event programme & budget, logistics, procurement and processing payment to vendors & presenters

  • Secretariat for SoLEC Senior Management monthly meetings

  • Planning and assisting in collation and preparation of centre level reports and slides for submission to the Office of Research and the Ministry of Education  

  • Tracking and allocating workspace for staff

  • Obtaining quotations, request budget and managing procurement for general office

  • Organising and supporting SoLEC events by providing general, administrative and logistical assistance to SGA SoL Symposium, SoLEC International Advisory Panel, SoLEC 5th Anniversary celebrations and events, visits, etc

  • Other tasks and duties assigned by SoLEC

Requirements

  • A University Degree

  • Meticulous with good analytical skills

  • Integrity and discretion when handling confidential information

  • Excellent people skills, communication and organization skills

  • Excellent writing skills

  • Self-driven and a strong team player

  • Able to problem solve and work within tight deadlines

  • Able to work with different internal and external stakeholders including government bodies

  • Candidates with work experience in institutions of higher learning would have an advantage

  • Candidates with work experience in research projects and research centres would have an advantage

  • Be proficient in MS Word and Excel
