Applications are sought for a committed Research Fellow to work with Dr Daniel M. Knight conducting research for a Leverhulme funded project entitled Times of Polycrisis in the UK and Europe (ToP). The primary duties will be to conduct ethnographic, archival, and media research in Eastern Europe as part of work package 2 “Humanitarian Crisis in Eastern Europe”. Research will be conducted for a total of 12 months in Eastern Europe on the humanitarian crisis generated by the war in Ukraine. The precise field site will be determined through PI-PDRF consultation upon their appointment. Research should relate to how the humanitarian crisis intersects with other ‘crises’, including energy, food provision, political populism, and migration within the polycrisis trope. The post holder will be expected to produce peer-reviewed articles, a social documentary film and/or a museum or gallery exhibit.
The successful applicant will have (or be near to completion of) a PhD in anthropology or closely related discipline with expertise in either the thematic of crisis and humanitarianism, or in the regional setting of Eastern Europe. The successful applicant will be proficient in the language of their chosen field site.
The post is available for 3.5 months starting September 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.
