Expression of Interest:  Assessment writer (contract position)

New Zealand Bachelor of Accounting (L6)

The Open Polytechnic of New Zealand (OPNZ) is New Zealand's largest dedicated provider of online and distance education.

We are looking for an experienced subject matter expert to develop assessments, marking guides, an exam paper and marking schedule, by mid-October, for the following course:

  • ACCY6104 Introduction to finance

  • Experience with assessment or exam development.
  • Experience with developing marking schedules and markers' guidance.
  • Strong writing skills.  
  • Post-graduate qualification or equivalent in the desired area.

The subject matter expert will play an important role in the development of the assessments and exam. They will:

  • Provide subject matter expertise/technical knowledge to write appropriate assessment tasks and exam questions, including scenarios, that meet the learning outcomes.
  • Write marking guides, including model answers.
  • Work alongside and support a Learning Designer to review and create content. 

The subject matter expert will work remotely with all meetings and communications done online using Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and email.

Person specifications and areas of expertise

  • Relevant and up to date academic knowledge and practical experience in accounting
  • Experience teaching adult learners.
  • Have a good understanding of the professional/industry requirements for graduates.
  • Be able to write assessment tasks and exam questions, marking schedules and markers' guidance.
  • Be willing to work to a deadline.
  • Be able to resolve issues raised by the Learning Designer and to escalate those, as necessary.
  • Be approachable.
  • Confident using Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Microsoft Word (Track changes, Comments).
