About our team/Mō te tīma

The University Union offers a variety of dining, catering and retail services to support our students, staff and visitors. 

This role is based within our busy Central Production Kitchen that provides a range of different food options across our food outlets as well as events catering.

The role/Te mahi

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Chef with a strong background in baking and pastry work to join our dynamic and fast-paced Central Production Kitchen team.

You’ll be working alongside a vibrant, collaborative crew, supporting our Head Baker to craft high-quality, delicious products such as cakes, pastries, slices and other tasty treats for our on-campus cafes and special events.  If you thrive in a creative kitchen environment and love working with food, this could be your next great opportunity!

You will be a hospitality professional with a varied background in food service, strong communication and team building skills.

We are also looking for candidates with: 
•    Proven experience in the hospitality industry (especially in baking and pastry).
•    A strong commitment to top-notch customer service.
•    Attention to detail and pride in high-quality work.
•    Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks with ease.
•    Outstanding communication skills.

A high level of competency and the ability to work as part of a team is important. The successful applicant would have the ability to help develop a mutual respect between primary customers and staff.

Further details/Pūroko

This is a permanent, full-time, semester time position (February to November each year), located in Ōtepoti, Dunedin.

Hours of work are 40 hours per week, as per roster. Occasional weekend shifts as required.

Central Production Kitchen experiences a busy period from November to February, as we cater to conferences and events job opportunities will be available throughout the semester break.

The position will commence in July 2025, and the appointment range starts at $30.07 per hour.
