The American University of Malta is a dynamic, growing institution, located in the beautiful medieval centre of the Mediterranean in Malta. Preferably, the HR Manager should be someone who has spent their time immersed in supporting organisational change programmes. Someone with a passion for developing and supporting great people matches our own. 

Responsibilities 

  • The HR Manager assists in delivering the People Plan and ensuring a high-quality employee experience across the American University of Malta.
  • Assisting the Director in the day-to-day running of the HR Function, ensuring an efficient and effective delivery of HR services.
  • Assisted and participated in HR projects and initiatives.
  • Preparing and maintaining employment records for all employees, both on the HR & Payroll system.
  • Maintaining and updating HR documents such as personnel files, HR policies, procedures, and templates.
  • Responsible for the payroll process, including timely and accurate submission of returns to IRD.
  • Assisting and guiding employees requiring a residence or work permit, ensuring timely renewals of any existing permits.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of HR policies.
  • Assisting in the recruitment processes, onboarding, performance management, and other HR issues.
  • Handling queries from and acting as a point of reference for employees on HR matters.
  • Liaising with external bodies such as ID Malta, Jobs Plus, and IRD.
  • Carrying out other duties as might be required 

Requirements:

  • Ideally, minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably in the education industry
  • A master’s degree in human resources is considered an asset.
  • Certification in the HR field, Employment Law course is a must.
  • Demonstrate excellent conflict management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • An ability to exercise sensitivity and confidentiality, and must be able to act with discretion.
  • A sound knowledge of IT applications, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, including Talexio.
  • Proficient in the use of the English language; another language is an asset.
  • The ability to multitask when under pressure, whilst maintaining accuracy
  • An inquisitive mind and eagerness to learn.
