Location: University College Cork, MUNSTER
Deadline: 30 May 2025

18 Months, Fixed-Term, Whole-Time Post

Position Summary

Applications are invited for the position of Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher in The Department of Engineering - Structural and Hydro-Environmental Dynamics Group.

The successful candidate will work across several ocean energy projects, principally the WEC4Fish project funded by the Marine institute, led by wave energy device developer OE and the SEAI funded A-Team project led by Tidal Energy developer ORPC Ireland Ltd.  On both projects the successfully candidate will be expected to undertake hydrodynamic modelling to assess the resource available for the various technologies at several sites. The role includes undertaking extensive literature reviews and critically analysing power demands and opportunities for ocean energy technologies while also considering the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) for various scenarios. The candidate is expected to contribute to dissemination, public engagement and crucially management of the projects in coordination with industry leads and funding bodies.

Achievement of the expected progression within Post Doc and Senior Post Doc is transferable between the Irish HEI’s.  This can be reflected in the starting pay of a PD researcher.  Similarly, as the PD scheme is an intergenerational training scheme completion of PD1 or PD 2 levels in one HEI will normally render that researcher ineligible for appointment at a similar level in another Irish HEI Researcher Career Development Framework | Irish Universities Association.
