Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated, talented and dynamic Postdoctoral Researcher to join the interdisciplinary vaccine research team in the School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology and as part of the All-Island Vaccine Research and Training Alliance AIVRT; https://www.aivrthub.org/about.html AVIRT is a hub of excellence, across the island of Ireland, aiming to develop effective vaccines to control the spread of bacterial antimicrobial resistance. This network provides a unique interdisciplinary programme with cross-training in complementary areas of life-sciences, biotechnology, health psychology, public health, ethics, and communication to build capacity in vaccine design, development, and deployment. The research in our group builds on our significant expertise in developing and commercialising novel vaccines and delivery platforms. This project focuses on developing novel vaccines for Staphylococcus aureus and developing tissue-targeting delivery technologies.

The successful candidate will lead the in-depth investigation of the quality of the immune response induced by candidate vaccines, using state-of-the-art immunology approaches in pre-clinical models. They will coordinate and participate in network collaborations to investigate tissue-resident immunity and protection against challenge. They will work closely with an experienced graduate student and be part of a team of immunologists and formulation scientists.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated researcher with relevant experience in vaccine development and testing, with an ability to work to a high standard. The scientist must have excellent communication motivation, planning, organising skills, practical, problem solving, record-keeping skills and the ability to work as part of a team. The scientist must hold a secondary degree in a relevant life sciences degree and a PhD in vaccine immunology. Experience in examining vaccine-induced immunity, multi-parameter flow cytometry, ELISPOT, functional antibody analyses, as well as in vivo potency is essential. The scientist must have a track record in publishing previous work.

 The salary will be commensurate with experience. There is a potential for further funding after 12 months.

Achievement of the expected progression within Post Doc and Senior Post Doc is transferable between the Irish HEI’s.  This can be reflected in the starting pay of a PD researcher.  Similarly, as the PD scheme is an intergenerational training scheme completion of PD1 or PD 2 levels in one HEI will normally render that researcher ineligible for appointment at a similar level in another Irish HEI Researcher Career Development Framework | Irish Universities Association
