Position Summary :

The Chemistry and Chemical Bioengineering Unit (Tanaka Unit) at OIST is seeking Postdoctoral Scholars with experience in organic chemistry. Please see below for specific information about desired candidates.

Responsibilities :

Successful candidates will be involved in research on one or more of the projects related to:

1.  Development of chemical transformation strategies and methods, including the development of organocatalytic asymmetric transformations and the development of small organic molecule catalysts used for asymmetric transformations
2.  Development of protein chemical conjugation methods including the development of molecules that react with proteins at certain positions


Successful candidates must be able to:
1.  Develop and execute independent research in synthetic organic chemistry on the projects described above.
2.  Write/prepare drafts of manuscripts (including Supporting Information) based on the performed research described above.
3.  Prepare reports, posters, presentations, etc. based on the performed research.
4.  Collaboratively work as required.


Successful candidates will be expected to:
1.  Collaboratively develop novel ideas and methods relevant to the projects described above and for funding applications.

Qualifications :
(Required)

1.  Applicants must have a Ph.D. (or must be a Ph.D. candidate who will obtain a Ph.D. by the start date at OIST) and have a background in organic chemistry
2.  Applicants must have demonstrated excellence in research relevant to the work on the projects described above.

S tarting Date :
As early as possible after hiring decision is made is desired, but start date is negotiable.

Term :
Full-time, fixed-term appointment for 2 years. Contract initially with 6-month probationary period (inclusive). This contract may be renewed by taking into consideration the performance, conduct, and behavior of the Employee and OIST’s financial and other circumstances.

Compensation & Benefits :
Expected Annual Salary: 4.6M-5.9M JPY
In accordance with the OIST Employee Compensation Regulations

Saturday, Sunday, National holidays, and Year-end and New Year holidays (Dec. 29 – Jan. 3)

In the discretionary labor system for specialized work, the employee shall be deemed to have worked 7 hours 30 minutes per day.
