The Institute for Research on Cancer and Aging (IRCAN) in Nice, France, is seeking a passionate and motivated Principal Investigator to join our dynamic research Institute. IRCAN is dedicated to advancing our understanding of the basic mechanisms of aging to develop novel strategies that improve healthspan and lifespan, as well as better treat cancer and other aging-related diseases.
About IRCAN:
Located in the heart of the beautiful French Riviera, IRCAN is a leading research institute in the field of aging in France, combining cutting-edge science with a collaborative and supportive environment. Currently, it comprises 16 teams with strong expertise in various areas of aging research, including telomere biology, senescence, adult stem cell biology and aging, immunology of aging and related pathologies, among others. Our research focuses on the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying aging, specifically how these processes contribute to age-induced dysfunctions in different organs and systems, as well as the development of age-related pathologies, including cancer. IRCAN has access to multiple platforms covering various aspects of molecular and cellular biology, as well as the use of model organisms such as mice, zebrafish, invertebrates, and yeast.
Position Overview:
We are looking for a highly motivated Principal Investigator with a strong background in aging research, cancer, or related fields. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about exploring the fundamental biological processes that drive aging across different systems and contribute to the onset and progression of cancer and other aging-associated diseases. Areas of potential interest include:
Basic molecular mechanisms of aging and their link to the development and progression of age-related diseases.
Aging and cancer, including novel strategies to improve cancer treatment.
Aging of the immune system.
Novel rejuvenation strategies.
We are particularly interested in a Principal Investigator with expertise in interdisciplinary areas such big data, artificial intelligence, mathematical modeling, or chemistry.
As a Principal Investigator at IRCAN, you will have the opportunity to:
Lead and develop an independent research program in aging research and/or age-related pathologies, including cancer.
Collaborate with world-class researchers in a multidisciplinary environment.
Contribute to groundbreaking research aimed at uncovering novel therapeutic strategies for aging-related diseases, including cancer.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in a relevant field.
Proven track record of publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, demonstrating the ability to compete for prestigious European (e.g., ERC) and French (e.g., ATIP-Avenir) funding schemes.
A strong passion for advancing the understanding of aging-related diseases and a commitment to developing innovative and impactful research approaches.
Why Join IRCAN?
The candidate could benefit from the ongoing 'Choose France for Science' grant call, which aims to attract high-level researchers: https://france2030.agencerecherche.fr/ChooseFranceForScience-2025/accueil.php?lang=EN
Work in a vibrant, collaborative, and interdisciplinary research environment.
Access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources, including several platforms with the use of model organisms.
The opportunity to make a significant impact in the field of aging and cancer research.
Located in the scenic city of Nice, providing a high quality of life in a Mediterranean setting.
To Apply:
Interested candidates are invited to send the following documents to the Director of IRCAN, Dr. Dmitry Bulavin, at Dmitry.Bulavin@unice.fr:
