Post doc position in infection-organoid biology at Center for Evolutionary Hologenomics, GLOBE Institute
We are looking for a creative and curious researcher for a post doc position in infection-organoid biology. The position is for 17 months, with start date 01.08.2025.
You will get to explore how Helicobacter pylori bacteria interact with each other and their host in a gastric organoid and organoid-derived monolayer cell culture system.
Information on the department can be found at https://globe.ku.dk .
Our research
You will join our small team of scientists studying how microbe-host-drug interactions affect host health, in an interdisciplinary evolutionary medicine framework. We focus on Helicobacter pylori, an ancient inhabitant of the human stomach, with a rapidly declining prevalence. The organoid work will complement our other approaches, using mouse infection experiments and screening of clinical samples.
The Center provides an inclusive and international work environment, where interdisciplinarity and creativity is key. We are located in beautiful central Copenhagen, and frequent scientific and social events contribute to a collaborative atmosphere.
Your job
Gastric pain and disease is frequently caused by pain killers and infection with H. pylori. But does the drugs interact with the bacteria in causing damage to the stomach epithelium? You will work with a mouse gastric organoid-derived tissue model to explore this in a hologenomic framework. You will have opportunities to participate in relevant courses and conferences.
Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:
Essential experience and skills:
- You have a PhD in cell biology, immunology, microbiology, or similar
- You are experienced in gastric organoid work or cell culturing
- You have worked with immunoassays
- You are experienced with microscopy (light: fluorescent, confocal, super-resolution, and electron: transmission electron microscopy) complementary expertise in image analysis
- Hands-on experience with epithelial barrier assessment assays (transepithelial measurements, impendence spectroscopy, permeability assays, viability assays)
- You have proficient communication skills and the ability to work in teams
- You have excellent English skills written and spoken
Desirable experience and skills:
- Experience with bioinformatics
- FELASA certification for mouse experimental work
- Interest in evolutionary biology
- You have an interest in symbiotic microorganisms
