The Daan van Aalten laboratory at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Aarhus University is looking for a lab assistant (student worker) for genotyping of O-GlcNAc related disease models.
Expected start date and duration of employment
This is a fixed term position from the 1st of September 2025 until end of June 2026.
Job description
- You will be contributing to experiments investigating the role of O-GlcNAcylation in neurological disease models.
- You will be working primarily with OGT- and OGA-mutant mouse tissues.
- The position will focus on aspects of tissue dissection, sample preparation, and basic molecular biology workflows specific to glycosylation biology.
- You will be involved in the day-to-day running of experiments, including genotyping, reagent prep, and data documentation.
- These activities will be in close collaboration with postdocs and PhD students in the lab, as well as external collaborators focusing on O-GlcNAc-specific mass spectrometry and sequencing.

- Proven ability to handle and process neural tissues from O-GlcNAc-related disease models, including embryonic and adult brain samples.
- Experience with immunostaining and western blotting using O-GlcNAc-specific antibodies, including RL2 and CTD110.6.
- Experience with molecular biology techniques tailored for glycosylation-sensitive samples, especially RNA extraction.
- Hands-on involvement in preparing samples for mass spectrometry.
- Accurate record-keeping and ability to follow complex genotyping schemes for transgenic mouse colonies.
- Documented contribution to research projects focused on O-GlcNAc-dependent transcriptional or neurological processes.
The lab assistant will be affiliated to the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics.
