Job Description
Are you eager to contribute to an ambitious, high-impact project advancing sustainability through remanufacturing in a circular economy context?
DTU is recruiting for multiple positions to join a newly established National Center for Remanufacturing - reManuFactory.
As part of the reManuFactory project, funded by the Danish Industry Foundation, you will collaborate closely with research assistants, postdoctoral researchers, and academic staff to develop cutting-edge methodologies. The research is cross-disciplinary, combining advanced quantitative analysis, simulation, and systems integration.
Your work will be central to achieving the project’s ambitious academic, industrial and societal impact goals.
DTU Construct is seeking a Research Assistant to ensure the technical feasibility and performance of remanufacturing processes by providing data-driven material assessments and validation techniques.
Responsibilities and qualifications
You will join the Section of Materials and Surface Engineering at DTU Construct, working within a multidisciplinary, international, and diverse team. In a world where circular economy and remanufacturing are seen as key to ensuring radically reduced resource consumption, improved climate impact, improved industrial and societal resilience, and heightened competitive edge, we are seeking a sharp, highly motivated and collaborative colleague for this position, able to partake the following primary tasks:
- Develop inspection methods for assessing component condition and material quality
- Perform testing and analysis to support remanufacturing decisions, including
- Elemental composition and topography analysis
- Contamination and surface characterization of metallic components before and after remanufacturing
- Evaluation of corrosion resistance using both standardized and tailored test procedures to ensure that metallic surfaces retain sufficient corrosion resistance after components are remade
- Collaborate with production engineers to align characterisation methods with process requirements
- Collaborate across work packages and with academic and industry partners
- Disseminate results through publications and stakeholder engagement
Your primary qualifications are:
- As a formal qualification, you must hold an MSc degree (or equivalent) within Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Experience with corrosion and metallurgy, electrochemical methods, microstructure analysis, and SEM/EDS characterisation
- Strong analytical skills and knowledge of material failure mechanisms
- Proven ability to work across disciplines and collaborate with industrial and academic partners
- Strong motivation, independence, and a proactive, solution-oriented mindset
- Experience in disseminating research
You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:
- Research experience
- Research vision and potential
- International impact and experience
- Communication, collaboration, and interdisciplinary skills
