Job Description

We are looking for two highly skilled and motivated organic synthetic chemists for our programs within carbohydrate chemistry, oligosaccharide synthesis, and glycobiology.
You will either join the team working towards the chemical synthesis of defined oligosaccharides related to the plant cell wall glycan RG-II, or the team working on carbohydrate-based vaccines for cancer and infectious diseases. We are looking for creative minds with excellent practical lab skills to design smart syntheses and engage with collaborators and biologists.
Responsibilities
The main responsibility is to design and execute synthetic routes to oligosaccharides and glycoconjugates. You will join a research lab with a broad interest in chemical biology and a long-standing interest in plant cell wall glycans and glycan-based vaccines. Undergraduate and PhD research projects can be integrated into the projects, and you are expected to interact with and co-supervise those projects. Additionally, some teaching responsibilities can be expected, mainly involving laboratory courses.
Qualifications

  • You should have a PhD degree in chemistry with a strong theoretical and experimental background in organic chemistry and carbohydrate chemistry.
  • An interest in chemical biology and a desire to work in an interdisciplinary environment.
  • A documented track record in the synthesis of complex oligosaccharides is an advantage for this position.
  • A strong commitment to research.
  • Enthusiasm for working with research students.
  • Independence and strong communication skills.

In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to:

  • Relevance of background experience.
  • Passion for research and scientific discoveries.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).
