Job Description

If you have a keen interest in the development of technical solutions to promote the advancement of commercial fisheries this may be the perfect position for you. At DTU Aqua, your research will help to improve the environmental and economic sustainability of commercial fisheries.
You will join the Section for Fisheries Technology at DTU Aqua in Hirtshals. The section has 21 employees and focuses on the technological development of fishing gears, techniques and methods that can contribute to promoting economic and environmental sustainability in the fishing industry, and that can support society's need to regulate fishing. The section is internationally recognized and has a strong collaborative network within the development of fisheries technology.

Responsibilities
In this role, you will join an internationally recognised multidisciplinary team to develop new technical solutions to advance commercial fisheries. The team is developing a broad range of technical solutions, with the goal of implementing them in commercial fisheries. Your strong background in fishing gear development will contribute to this development.
You will collaborate with nearby colleagues and strengthen existing collaborations with other DTU institutes while also establishing new academic and industrial partnerships in Denmark as well as abroad. Your primary tasks will be to:

  • Develop, test, analyse, simulate and predict the capture performance of new fishing gears. 
  • Produce high quality scientific and/or engineering papers suitable for publication in quality journals.
  • Prepare appropriate conference papers and present those at conferences. 
  • Contribute to the development of innovative concepts, ideas and tools/services for further research. 
  • Participate in national and international projects through the generation of new ideas in collaboration with end users.

Competencies and Qualifications
In the assessment of the candidates, particular consideration will be given to:

  • A strong interest and documented experience in developing and testing, at sea and in the lab, the capture performance of active and passive fishing gears. 
  • A strong interest and documented skills and experience in using computer-based tools to analyse, simulate and predict capture performance of active and passive fishing gears. 
  • A track record of publishing in peer reviewed scientific journals.
  • Experience in writing grant applications.
  • Ability to create research networks
  • Prior knowledge about European fishery
  • High-level written and oral communication skills with the ability to represent the research team effectively internally and externally, including the presentation of research outcomes at national and international conferences.
  • Experience speaking a Scandinavian language is beneficial.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

Salary and terms of employment 
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
The period of employment is 2 years, with the possibility for extension.
