Job Description

At DTU Biosustain you will break new ground at the absolute forefront of what is possible, focusing on expression of complex disulfide-containing proteins. In this position, you will develop tools for optimizing synthetic biology tools for expression of complex heterologous peptides and proteins.
Responsibilities and qualifications
Your overall focus will be to strengthen the department’s competencies within expression of challenging proteins and peptides containing disulfide bridges. You will work with a team of leading scientist from both academically and industrial partners.
Your primary tasks will be to:
- Develop synthetic biology tools for optimizing expression of disulfide-bridge containing peptides and proteins in bacterial host organisms.
- Develop tools for monitoring and optimizing correct folding of such proteins.
- Carry out expression and purification for functional characterization of selected proteins.
- Teach and supervise BSc and MSc student projects
- Potentially Co-supervise PhD students
As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). Moreover, having experience in the following will be beneficial: "Expression of disulfide-containing proteins and peptides in bacteria, including E. coli.
- Experience with investigating protein folding of complex proteins.
- Development of synthetic biology tools for modularizing genetic elements to facilitate efficient cloning and genetic reconstruction.
- Experience with working and handling non-model bacterial expression organisms, including thermophilic bacteria.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
The period of employment is 2.5 years (30 months) with an expected start date of June 1st (or according to mutual agreement). The position is a full-time position.
