Job Description

A position as associate professor in radiation physics is vacant as soon as possible at the Research Unit of Clinical Oncology, Department of Clinical Research, Faculty of Health Sciences, SDU.

The position is for 5 years and covers 5% of a full-time position and is not directly combined with a clinical position.

Research areas

The associate professor will be part of the research group at the Laboratory of Radiation Physics related to the Department of Oncology at Odense University Hospital.

The research within the Laboratory of Radiation Physics is primarily related to clinical research. It will be expected that the research projects initiated by the associate professor are related to the MR accelerator that is installed in the department as a strategic initiative from the Region of Southern Denmark.

It will also expected that the research carried out will contribute to the current research in the group, which primarily is related to extraction of functional as well as biological information from medical images, improvement of image quality to support dose calculation and adaptive treatment delivery, and statistical modeling of patient data as well as development of efficient methods to support quality assurance of the equipment of the department.

Expectations of qualifications

It will be expected that the applicant:

  • has obtained a Ph.D. or equivalent degree
  • is educated as a medical physicist and has been evaluated as "Medical Physics expert" by the Danish Society for Medical Physics (DSMF) or a similar organization
  • has scientific peer-reviewed documented experience in physics/biophysics, and medical physics
  • has experience with computer programming
  • has existing research collaborations with other research institutions and/or industrial partners will also be an advantage. Within research topics, the associate professor will refer to the Head of Research within the Department of Oncology, Professor, Chief Physician Henrik Ditzel DMSc. As concerns staff topics, the employee will refer to the Head of the Department of Clinical Research, Rikke Leth-Larsen.
  • has teaching assignments

There will be a limited education obligation at the University of Southern Denmark, primarily in relation to PhD courses and research training courses.

The primary teaching responsibilities will be related to the staff in Department R (oncology department). 

The associate professor will be expected to present his/her research results at relevant regional, national, and international meetings, symposia, and conferences.

Laboratory of Radiation Physics

The Research Unit at the Laboratory of Radiation Physics consists of a professor, two assistant professors, three computer scientists and four Ph.D. students in medical physics.In addition to the research unit's research within medical physics, the group will also be expected to assist in developing methods and software that can streamline the clinical duties of the hospital physicists in the department.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

For associate professors, the minimum salary for a full-time position will be DKK 45,095 (equivalent to approximately EUR 6,041.05) per month before taxes. An additional 18.07 % of salary is paid into the pension scheme by the university.
