Introduction

The Institute for Theoretical Sciences at Westlake University invites applications for a postdoctoral position in statistics, machine learning, and data science. The postdoctoral researcher will be mentored by Professor Yiyuan She and will contribute to the development of innovative statistical methods and optimization algorithms for both estimation and inference. Special emphasis is placed on advancing statistical approaches to address the demands of increasingly complex, high-dimensional, and unconventional data environments, including those with non-Euclidean structures, intricate dependencies, and non-standard behaviors. The position offers opportunities for rigorous theoretical analysis and impactful applications across diverse domains. Job Description

Position: Postdoctoral Fellow (no. of vacancies: 1)

Start date: Flexible (two-year appointment)

 

Requirements

1) Hold or expect to hold a Ph.D. degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field.

2) Have a solid background in one or more of the following areas: high-dimensional statistics, machine learning, or optimization. A strong mathematical and statistical foundation is essential.

3) Demonstrated research ability and potential (e.g., through publications), characterized by initiative, a capacity for independent work, perseverance, and a dedicated work ethic.

4) Good communication and collaboration skills, along with programming proficiency, are considered extremely advantageous.

5) Aged under 35.

 

Compensation and Benefits

Funding

1. Postdocs receive a living allowance and research funding from the Hangzhou municipal government.

2. Recipients of funding from the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation or the Zhejiang Province Selected Funding for Postdoctoral Research Projects are entitled to supplementary funding of the same amount from the Hangzhou municipal government.

3. Postdocs who work full-time in Hangzhou after completing their postdoctoral research qualify for an allowance of 400,000 RMB from the Hangzhou municipal government.

4. Eligible new university graduates holding a doctoral degree or equivalent who work full time in Hangzhou (including those who studied abroad and returned to China within 5 years of graduation as well as foreign talent) can apply to the Hangzhou municipal government for a living allowance of 100,000 RMB.

5. Postdocs recognized as high-level talent in Hangzhou enjoy corresponding preferential policies.
