ACADEMIC POSITION in MATHEMATICS EDUCATION

INSTITUTE OF MATHEMATICS
VRD 103-2025

The Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso is a traditional Chilean university located in the historic city of Valparaíso. It has a vibrant community of approximately 1.500 academics and 20.000 students and is committed to both high-quality research and service to society through teaching, outreach, and financial support for students. The Mathematics Institute offers undergraduate, Master’s and Ph.D. programs in both Mathematics and Mathematics Education.

We are looking to fill a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of Mathematics Education.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education or related fields, strong research potential and commitment to teaching. We expect that the candidates have at least 1 year of experience in university-level teaching, together with good teaching references. The ability to obtain grants with national and/or international funding, and the participation in international research networks are highly valued.

In addition to supporting the development of researchers, PUCV funds internal research projects (as a way of promoting applications to external funds) and offers reduced teaching duties for active researchers. The teaching load is two course per semester, and some administrative activities are expected. The professor should be able to teach lessons in Spanish during the second year of the contract. The University offers Spanish courses if necessary.

The contract will be renewable for four years. The initial salary is approximately CLP 34.800.000 per year (before taxes) distributed over 12 months (this corresponds now to approximately USD 37,500 per year). This initial salary may be supplemented with financial incentives for grants and publications. After three years, the professor must initiate the academic tenure process. During this stage, salary will be increased according to evaluation.

The deadline is July 30, 2025. The applicants must submit their applications using https://www.mathjobs.org/jobs . Preselected applicants will be interviewed, in person or online, by the selection committee and a Human Resources expert. The selected candidates are expected to assume the position before March 2025.
