Reporting to the Assistant University Librarian, the Library Technician, Circulation & Access Services role is responsible for the provision of circulation and access services. This position also provides support for e-reserves and interlibrary loans and fulfills alternate formats requests as needed.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Circulation
- Provide circulation services using OMNI/Primo and Alma library systems, including creating/maintaining membership records, processing fines, handling courier materials, and processing check-outs, renewals, and returns
- Provide general information services related to the library’s spaces, collections, website, catalogue, and other resources
- Participate in the creation of engaging displays and social media initiatives
- Provide day-to-day oversight and assignment of tasks to student monitors, as required
- Work with the Library Services team to create and maintain a welcoming environment
- Work scheduled shifts (e.g. afternoons, evenings, weekends) at the Dorothy H. Hoover Library and Library Learning Zone service desks for extended periods of time as scheduled based on service needs
E-Reserves & Interlibrary Loan Support
- Provide support for e-reserves, interlibrary loan and document delivery services, in collaboration with other Library staff
- Develop and update procedures for all scanning services in consultation with other Library staff
- Scan and process e-reserve texts, archival and special collections, and other texts as required; optimize and edit texts using Adobe Acrobat and/or ABBYY Fine Reader
Other
- Collect and maintain data and statistics related to position and duties
- Assist in the coordination and handling of library materials; may be required to lift and/or move objects of up to 5-15kgs, with the assistance of a book cart if required
- Assist the Assistant University Librarian in related tasks that contribute to the successful operation of Library Services
Qualifications:
- Library Technician diploma with one (1) year of related work experience or equivalent
- Exceptional customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Strong computer skills, with a working knowledge of the Alma, Primo, Microsoft Excel, and Adobe Acrobat
- Experience with electronic reserves systems and relevant OCR software an asset
- A general knowledge of art and design
- Demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Willing and able to work evening and weekend shifts as required
- Demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity and experience promoting a respectful work and learning environment for students, staff and faculty
Mode of Work: On Campus
Compensation: Hiring Range - $23.48 to $27.75 per hour commensurate with experience, plus 4% vacation pay and 7% in lieu of benefits; Salary Range - $23.48 to $32.29 per hour.
Hours of Work: Up to 20 hours per week; must be willing and able to work evening and weekend shifts as required. This is a temporary contract expected to continue until December 19, 2025.
