McGill Sports Science Post-Doctoral Researcher Position (full-time)

Application Guidelines and Requirements

The Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education (KPE) at McGill University is accepting applications for a post-doctoral researcher position in human sport performance. The intent of this program is to support research that aims to understand, facilitate, and/or optimize sport performance, with preference for projects advancing endurance sport science. Foundational research projects that have indirect ties to sport will be considered if the applicant/supervisor describes the impact the subsequent projects will have on sport science research.

One (1) post-doctoral researcher position, valued at $50,000*/year for 2 years, will be awarded.

Requirements

  • Be eligible to hold a postdoctoral status at McGill University
    • As such, the candidate must have received a doctoral degree in a related discipline within 5 years of application

    • 2 letters of reference from former or current research supervisors or collaborators
    • Summary of a research project (2 pages, with additional unlimited number of pages for references; Times New Roman 12, 1.5 line spacing, minimum margins 2.54 cm);
    • Statement from proposed supervisor on a) the alignment of the project to the advancement of sports science, and specifically endurance sports (if applicable), b) the alignment with the supervisors’ program of research, c) the resources available to the candidate so they can complete the proposed project (1 page; Times New Roman 12, 1.5 spacing, minimum margins 2.54 cm).

Conditions of the position

  • Selected candidate must be available upon request to present their research in departmental events such as the Kinesiology and Physical Education graduate seminar series.
  • Selected candidate must write a letter-of-thanks within one month of receiving a McGill Sports Science Fellowship. Instructions and format will be communicated at a later time.
  • Aside from allocating the majority of this full-time position to research, the selected candidate will also contribute to the creation of sports science-relevant course content based on their field of research, in collaboration with KPE’s leadership. The selected candidate may be recruited by the SASSI director to help in the development of the Institute. The commitment to these responsibilities will not exceed 5% of the position, with the rest (at least 95%) of the full-time position for research.
  • The selected candidate must acknowledge the McGill Sports Science Initiative on all presentations and publications on work supported by this position.
  • The selected candidate must submit a report at the end of the contract, highlighting achievements (e.g., conference presentations, publications, knowledge mobilization activities).
