Please Note: This is a temporary assignment ending on or before June 30, 2028 with the possibility of extension. This competition is limited to current salaried NASA staff within the School of Construction Building Sciences.
Reporting directly to the Associate Dean of the Electrical, Safety & Systems Trades and Technologies Department, the Chair will act as the program champion to ensure student success through instructional and curriculum excellence. As a program champion, the Chair is considered a content expert and is responsible for supporting program development and growth; high caliber relevant curriculum; industry liaison; program promotional activities and identifying and recommending revenue generation opportunities. Striving for academic excellence, the Chair is also responsible to promote instructor learning and development opportunities, perform classroom observations, provide coaching and mentoring, and promoting the health and well-being of staff and students.
The successful candidate for this assignment will be an experienced supervisor/leader with a proven track record of success. A steadfast commitment to student success is required in this role all the while honoring our core values of respect, creativity, collaboration, accountability, and celebration.
Key Responsibilities:
Implements best practices related to curriculum management to ensure courses and programs offered are relevant and of the highest quality.
Initiates and supports Program accreditation activities to ensure the Program is compliant with provincial/national accreditation standards and leads the Program in striving for continual quality improvement supporting student success.
Provides instruction to students and fulfills instructional responsibilities.
Mentors, motivates, provides coaching and guidance to instructors to ensure instructor and Program excellence ultimately supporting student success.
Instructor classroom/lab observations to ensure quality learning experience for students.
Actively participates in activities that relate to student retention, recruitment, and program promotion.
Participates in the recruitment, selection, and orientation of instructional staff dedicated to NAIT’s visions, promises, and values.
Engages with industry, external stakeholders as well as other post-secondary institutions for the purpose of ensuring relevancy of Program-related content and equipment.
Supports the department leadership in scheduling and planning activities.
Recommends staff development opportunities for the instructional staff to the Department Head.
Participates in discussions regarding program instructor workloads and schedules based on instructional expertise supporting student success.
Skills & Abilities:
Demonstrate proactive leadership and supervisory/administrative skills.
Demonstrate an ability to work as an effective member of several teams.
Have diverse experience within the program in delivering technical training in an open exit, blended learning environment.
Demonstrate an above average knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products.
Possess knowledge of NAIT administrative policies, academic plan and business plan.
Demonstrate a positive, supportive and effective communication style with staff and students.
Work at a fast pace and handle a variety of tasks and commitments simultaneously.
Manage and organize time effectively.
Commitment to NAIT's mission and philosophy.
Excellent communications, interpersonal and team building skills.
Candidates should be energetic leaders dedicated to student success.
Qualifications:
Electrical journeyperson certification is required.
Related certificate, diploma or Journeyperson certification is required.
Related and varied industry experience.
Previous leadership/supervisory experience.
Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).
Remuneration: As outlined in the NASA Collective Agreement.

Appointment to this assignment is for a three-year term with the possibility of a further three-year extension.
