DUTIES
Under the supervision of the Exams Supervisor, the Accommodations Assistant is responsible for liaising with faculty regarding test/exam delivery and pick-up, invigilating tests/exams for face-to-face and distance education students with disabilities and providing assistance to students with use of adaptive technology during tests/exams. The Accommodations Assistant provides support to the Exams Supervisor and Exams Support Specialist with filing and inputting data in the Accessibility Services data-base/scheduling system and also works collaboratively with members of the Accessibility Services department and other TRU staff.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
- Grade 12, plus one year post-secondary program or specialized courses in a related field (e.g. Human, Social or Community Services)
EXPERIENCE:
- One year related experience working with persons with disabilities in an educational environment or equivalent
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB
- Knowledge of disabilities, confidentiality and privacy guidelines
- Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with a range of people including staff, faculty, students with disabilities and individuals under stress
- Proven ability to deal courteously and effectively with a range of people including students with various disabilities, faculty and staff
- Ability to respond effectively to challenging and stressful situations involving students and/or faculty
- Intermediate knowledge of word processing programs and databases
- Understanding of adaptive technology in a testing environment
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team as well as independently
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Sitting at a desk and computer for long periods of time
- General office conditions
- Regular contact with students with a variety of disabilities
- Dealing with challenging or difficult situations and/or personalities
The salary for the above position is determined by the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 4879, as it presently exists.
Pay Band
$27.90 - $31.00 ( CUPE Grade 06 (90% - 100%) )
Salary rate
Please Note: This position may be subject to a 90% salary for the first 560 hours of employment.
