Position Description

The research group of Prof. Polshyn at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) invites applications for a postdoctoral position. The successful candidate will use low-temperature scanning probe microscopy (SPM) to experimentally investigate the nature and properties of correlated electrons in van der Waals (vdW) systems, focusing on topological states in graphene moiré heterostructures . Candidates with strong expertise in SPM, low-temperature measurements and instrumentation are especially encouraged to apply. The expected length of this appointment is three years: the initial appointment is for one year with an extension for another two years contingent on performance. The start date of the appointment is flexible.

Responsibilities:
• Design and conduct low-temperature SPM and electronic transport experiments to investigate the physics of strongly-correlated electronic phases in moiré graphene heterostructures.
• Use nanofabrication facilities at ISTA to create novel devices of van der Waals heterostructures.

Requirements:
• Ph.D. in Physics (Experimental Condensed Matter).
• Strong expertise in low-temperature scanning probe microscopy techniques or low-temperature electronic transport measurements is required .
• Experience in nanofabrication and micro-characterization techniques is strongly desired .
• Experience in working with van der Waals materials is strongly desired .
