About This Opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists within the School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering for a Principal Learning Designer to support our academic staff in a new project - transitioning existing mining engineering courses (subjects) to blended learning formats and developing new courses (subjects) in mining engineering. This role will be pivotal in enhancing educational outcomes for both undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students. You will have the opportunity to shape the future of mining engineering education by bridging academic expertise with innovative learning design.
Key responsibilities will include:
Collaborate with mining engineering academic staff to redesign existing courses into flexible blended learning formats suitable for both on- and off-campus students.
Assist in the design and development of new graduate diploma/certificate programs in resource development, tailored for remote and working students.
Create engaging, balanced learning sequences integrating both online and face-to-face delivery methods.
Support academic staff in developing interactive multimedia content and authentic assessment strategies aligned with learning outcomes and industry practices.
Recommend and implement appropriate digital tools and technologies to enhance mining engineering education for diverse learning environments.
Provide coaching and facilitate workshops for academic staff on instructional design, digital pedagogy, and effective use of educational technologies.
Translate complex mining engineering concepts into accessible and engaging learning materials.
Collect and analyse student feedback to inform continuous course improvement and propose evidence-based enhancements to optimize learning outcomes.

About You
A relevant degree and at least four (4) years subsequent relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training in developing online resources to support student learning.
Experience in the Mining sector will be highly regarded.
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, along with the ability to develop and maintain strong collaborative linkages with diverse stakeholders, and a demonstrated commitment to responding to client needs.
Proven ability and experience in using a range of technologies including learning platforms and associated software for the design, development, implementation and evaluation of online learning resources and environments to support student learning.
A resource related, technical or STEM-focus is preferred.
Knowledge of, or willingness to acquire knowledge of, mining engineering principles and practices.
Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: e.g. educational design, Academic development, Web design, Multimedia design, Assessment, Learning management systems, e-Learning, Collaborative learning, Online communities.
Demonstrated experience working in higher education.
The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, criminal check, education check, etc.
