About the opportunity

The School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SOLES) is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in  Peptide Based Drug Discovery to conduct research focused on the development of a new class of bioactive molecules with the potential to have wide-reaching applications in fundamental research and the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. The research program is co-funded by the Australian Research Council and the Sydney- and US-based biotech company INSAMO and the successful candidate would work at the Camperdown campus of the University of Sydney.

Your key responsibilities would be to:

  • work with the research groups of Prof. Joel Mackay and Prof. Richard Payne, alongside a postdoctoral peptide chemist, and jointly in collaboration with INSAMO use mRNA display to design and select candidate cyclic peptides from large libraries characterize the structure and biochemical activity of candidate peptides in the context of their protein targets assess the ability of these peptides to degrade their protein target in cell-based assays assist in the supervision of junior group members (e.g., PhD candidates and undergraduates)

About you

  • A PhD (or near completion) in protein biochemistry, structural biology or a closely related discipline expertise in recombinant DNA technology (cloning, mutagenesis), protein expression and purification expertise in protein biophysics and structural biology, characterization of protein interactions.
