The Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) is seeking a Doctoral Researcher (ICP1 level) with a background in Industrial Engineering to join the research project:

“Custom Additive Manufacturing Scaffolds with Piezoelectric Coatings and Drug Delivery Systems for Enhanced Bone Regeneration” (Reference: PROID2025010017).

This project focuses on the optimization of additive manufacturing processes (MEX) and scaffold performance for bone regeneration applications. It integrates advanced manufacturing, materials engineering, and biomedical technologies within the research line Additive Manufacturing and Biofabrication, funded by ACIISI.

The selected candidate will be based at the Integrated Manufacturing Building (Science and Technology Park, Tafira Campus) and will work within a multidisciplinary research team.

The contract is indefinite, subject to project funding, with an execution end date of 30 September 2027.
Main Responsibilities

The researcher will contribute to the following activities:

  • Development and characterization of 3D-printed scaffolds
  • Optimization of scaffold design and additive manufacturing (MEX) processes
  • Application and optimization of piezoelectric ceramic coatings
  • Development and characterization of drug delivery systems integrated into scaffolds
  • Participation in dissemination, communication, and intellectual property activities
  • Data management and open access support

Working Conditions

  • Contract type: Part-time (20 hours/week)
  • Working schedule: Monday to Friday, 15:00–19:00
  • Workplace: Integrated Manufacturing Building, ULPGC (Tafira Campus)
  • Monthly salary: €1,150.13 (according to salary scale)
  • Proposed start date: 1 April 2026

This position offers the opportunity to work in advanced manufacturing and bioengineering, focusing on process optimization and innovation in scaffold fabrication for biomedical applications.

Eligibility criteria

The evaluation process (maximum 100 points) will follow these criteria:

1. Research and/or Professional Experience – Maximum 50 points (50%)

Assessment includes:

  • Experience in optimization of scaffolds for bone regeneration using additive manufacturing (MEX)
  • Participation in research projects
  • Predoctoral contracts in related fields

2. Academic Training – Maximum 10 points (10%)

Assessment includes:

  • Academic record (Industrial Engineering or equivalent degree)

3. Other Merits – Maximum 20 points (20%)

Assessment includes:

  • JCR-indexed publications (4 points per publication)
  • Book chapters (2 points each)
  • Conference participation (2 points each)

4. Interview – Maximum 20 points (20%)

Top candidates (scoring above 40 points) may be invited to an interview to assess:

  • Suitability for the role
  • Knowledge of the research field
  • Skills and competencies
