Offer Description
This is a PhD project focused on the design, synthesis, and advanced structural characterisation of MOF-glass composites for sustainable applications. By combining the porosity and chemical tunability of crystalline metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) with the processability and mechanical robustness of glassy matrices, these hybrid materials offer a promising platform for environmental and energy-related technologies. The project will develop new composite materials based on crystalline MOFs integrated with both inorganic and hybrid glasses, with particular emphasis on understanding the structural interactions at the interfaces between phases. Advanced techniques, including Pair Distribution Function (PDF) analysis, will be used to investigate these complex structures. Overall, the project aims to establish MOF-glass composites as a new class of functional materials for sustainable applications such as adsorption, catalysis, and environmental remediation.
The work will be developed at the Materials Science Institute of Madrid (ICMM), a research institute of the Spanish Research Council (CSIC), in the framework of the Comunidad de Madrid-Atracción de Talento Project (2024-T1/TEC-31450).
