Offer Description
Food Inflation and Food Security
Supervisor: prof. Ing. Ján Pokrivčák, PhD.
Work place: Institute of Economic Policy and Finance
Field of study: Economics and Management
Study programme: Economics and Management of Agriculture and Food Processing
Language of dissertation: Slovak, English
Form of study: full-time
The dissertation will analyze the determinants of food inflation and its impacts on food security and the social situation of the population of the selected country. Overall inflation has been low in Slovakia since the adoption of the euro in 2009. Prices of goods and services in all EU countries, including Slovakia, have started to rise significantly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has disrupted global supply chains. The pandemic has also changed the structure of household consumption, which has increased the share of spending on goods at the expense of services. Overall inflation increased after the Russian military invasion of Ukraine, which caused a global increase in energy and agricultural commodity prices. The share of Slovak household spending on food and non-alcoholic beverages in total spending currently accounts for more than 26%. The dissertation will analyze the development of food prices in Slovakia, the development of prices within the food vertical, as well as the impact of food inflation on food security. The increase in food prices has had a different impact on different groups of households, and policy settings must respond to the different needs of households. We will use econometric modelling, timeseries econometric analysis, and microeconomic analysis to compute margins within the food supply chain.

Študijný program: Ekonomika a manažment poľnohospodárstva a potravinárstva
Jazyk dizertačnej práce : slovenský, anglický

Dizertačná práca bude zameraná na problematikou konkurencieschopnosti poľnohospodárstva v kontexte potravinovej sebestačnosti a zmien Spoločnej poľnohospodárskej politiky (SPP) Európskej únie. Cieľom práce bude zhodnotiť faktory ovplyvňujúce konkurencieschopnosť poľnohospodárskeho sektora, posúdiť úroveň potravinovej sebestačnosti Slovenska a zhodnotiť dopady reformných zmien SPP na ekonomickú výkonnosť a stabilitu odvetvia. Práca bude vychádzať z teoretických prístupov k meraniu konkurencieschopnosti a bude využívať kvantitatívne metódy analýzy primárnych a sekundárnych dát, vrátane komparatívnej a trendovej analýzy. Osobitná pozornosť bude venovaná podpore príjmov farmárov, environmentálnym požiadavkám, generačnej obnove a novým nástrojom SPP. Výsledky budú identifikovať kľúčové slabé a silné stránky slovenského poľnohospodárstva a navrhovať opatrenia na zvýšenie jeho odolnosti, produktivity a schopnosti zabezpečiť primeranú mieru potravinovej sebestačnosti v meniacich sa podmienkach európskej agrárnej politiky.
