Offer Description

A call is open for the award of 1 Research Grant, within the Center for Research in Translational Health and Medical Biotechnology (TBIO), under  the scope of the project SafeDrive Project – Risk Assessment for Bus Drivers, in partnership with the Sociedade de Transportes Colectivos do Porto (STCP), under the following conditions:

  • ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

    2.1 - General requirements for application to a research grant:

    a) National citizens or citizens of other Member States of the European Union; 

    b) Citizens of third states;

    c) Stateless individuals or beneficiaries of political refugee status; 

    d) Applicants must be in one of the following academic situations: 

    1) Be enrolled in an integrated master’s degree or a master’s program, with the objective of consolidating the scientific training through the development of research work leading to the corresponding academic degree, whether or not integrated in R&D projects. 

    2) Be a bachelor’s degree holder enrolled in non-degree courses included in the educational project of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units. 

    e) For case (1), applicants holding foreign degrees must have their degree recognized in Portugal, with conversion of the final classification into the Portuguese grading scale, under the terms of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16.

     

  • 2.2 – Specific requirements:

    Academic background: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health or related areas.

    2.3 – Preferential factors:

    Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge and skills in:

    a) Knowledge and experience in the collection and processing of physiological and biomechanical data;

    b) Demonstrated proficiency in the English language;

    c) Immediate availability to start the scholarship (to be mentioned in the motivation letter).

     

  • WORK PLAN
  • Collaborate in the following tasks of the project:

    a) Collaborate in data collection;

    b) Collaborate in data analysis;

    c) Prepare scientific articles.

  • DURATION AND WORK REGIME
  • The grant contract will last for 6 months, under an exclusive regime, in accordance with the applicable regulations.

     

  • MONTHLY MAINTENANCE ALLOWANCE AMOUNT
  • The amount of the grant is €1 040.98, according to the current FCT table of values (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Tabela_valores_SMM_2025.pdf ), paid monthly, plus reimbursement of voluntary social security contributions, according to the regulations.

     

  • SELECTION METHOD AND JURY COMPOSITION
  • 9.1 – Applicant selection methods:

    The selection methods to be used will be in accordance with the following selection criteria and respective weightings: 

    A) Evaluation of the curriculum vitae and adequacy of the applicant’s profile for the position, scored from 0 to 20 (weighting 50%).

    B) Interview (50%), scored from 0 to 20 (weighting 50%).

     

    For each of the criteria, the factors to be considered and their respective weights are as follows:

    A) Evaluation of the curriculum vitae and adequacy of the applicant’s profile for the position, scored from 0 to 20 (weighting 50%):

    i. Academic performance:

  • Bachelor's degree with a final grade equal to or higher than 16 (out of 20) = 10 points
  • Bachelor's degree with a final grade below 16 = 6 points

    ii. Work or training experience in the field related to the position – 4 points

    iii. Knowledge and experience in the collection and processing of physiological and biomechanical data – 3 points

    iv. Experience in scientific publication of articles in English that are published, accepted for publication, or positively reviewed for peer-reviewed publication:

    1) One article in a journal with impact factor (Web of Science – Clarivate Analytics) = 3 points

    2) One or more articles indexed in Scopus = 2 points

  •  

    B) Interview (50%), with a rating from 0 to 20 points (50% weighting):

    i. Fluency and communication skills, including proficiency in English – 5 points

    ii. Demonstrated expertise in occupational risks to which bus drivers are exposed – 5 points

    iii. Demonstrated proficiency in the collection and processing of physiological and biomechanical data – 5 points

    iv. Critical thinking and ability to solve complex problems – 5 points

     

    9.2 – Tie-breaking criteria:

    In the event of a tie in the final ranking, the following tie-breaking criteria will be applied:

    If the tie persists, the jury shall hold a vote in which all members participate, with the President of the jury having the casting vote in the event of a further tie.

     

    9.3 – Reasons for applicants exclusion:

    Applicants may be excluded from the call for the following reasons:

    a) Failure to meet the requirements specified in the competition notice (point 2); 

    b) Applicants scoring below 9.5 in any evaluation component will be excluded from the competition and will not proceed to the following component(s);

    c) Failure to attend the interview, when applicable, or the applicant’s unavailability to provide any additional clarifications requested shall be considered as withdrawal from the competition.

     

    9.4 – Selection jury composition:

    President –   Professora Matilde Alexandra Rodrigues, Coordinating Professor at E2S|P.PORTO.

    Effective Member – Professor Paulo José Medeiros de Carvalho, Adjunct Professor at E2S|P.PORTO, who replaces the president in absences and impediments

    Effective Member – Eng. Rui Sérgio Soares Pinto da Cunha, Responsible for the Occupational Health and Safety Department at STCP. 

    Alternate Member – Professor Luís Filipe Martins Pinto Coelho, Coordinating Professor at ISEP|P.PORTO.

     

    10. METHOD OF PUBLICATION/NOTIFICATION OF RESULTS

    The results of the competition will be communicated to the applicants electronically, via the email address provided in the application, in accordance with the deadlines established in the P.PORTO Research Grant Regulations. The minutes shall be obligatorily archived by the jury on the support platform for this competition: https://domus.ipp.pt/concursos/ess/pessoal/ .

     

    11. DEADLINE AND PROCEDURE FOR SUBMITTING APPLICATIONS

    11.1. Application deadline

    The competition is open for a period of 10 working days, from 10/03/ 2026 to 23/03/2026.

    Date of publication: 09/03/2026.

     

    11.2. Procedure for submitting applicantions

    Applications must be formalized by completing the electronic application form, which is available at https://www.ess.ipp.pt/ess/recrutamento/bolsas-de-investigacao/bolsas-de-investigacao and submitting it together with all required documents by the established deadline.

     

    Applications sent by email or through any other electronic means than that specified will be automatically excluded.

     

    11.3. Application supporting documents 

    1) Curriculum Vitae;

    2) Academic certificates, or their official recognition (with conversion of the final grade), when awarded by foreign higher education institutions, without prejudice to the provisions of paragraph 1 of the following section;

    3) Proof of enrollment in a degree program or a non-degree course, if the applicant is not a student of P.PORTO, without prejudice to the provisions of paragraph 2 of the following section;

    4) Declaration, under honor pledge, stating that:

    (A) The applicant is aware of the current P.PORTO Research Grant Regulations and undertakes to comply with it;

    (B) The applicant does not exceed, with the signing of the present grant contract, the maximum legally established period, whether continuous or cumulative.

    5) Any other documents the applicant considers relevant.

     

    11.4. Application supporting documents: specific conditions

    The proof documents mentioned in item 2 of the preceding section, of the following type:

  • Academic degree(s) and diploma(s), or their recognition when awarded by foreign higher education institutions – mandatory whenever degree ownership is a condition of admission or a selection criterion for applicants. However, it may be waived at the application stage and replaced by a declaration of honor by the applicant, with verification of this condition taking place only at the grant contracting stage;
  • Proof of enrollment in a degree program or in a non-degree course, in the case of applicants who are not P.PORTO students – mandatory whenever enrollment is an admission requirement. The awarding of the grant will be conditional upon valid enrollment within six months from the date of notification of approval in the scientific evaluation stage.

    12. TIME LIMITS AND PROCEDURES FOR COMPLAINTS AND APPEALS

    The final decision may be contested within 15 working days (complaint) or appealed to the President of P.PORTO within 30 working days, following notification, in accordance with Article 12 of the current P.PORTO Research Grant Regulations.
