Offer Description

CERIC-ERIC, the Central European Consortium for Research Infrastructure, is seeking a PhD student in Experimental Physics to contribute to the CERIC-ERIC project “LEMIS” (Analysis and imaging of Light Elements in Materials of Importance to energy Storage using ion beams). The position will remain open until filled.
The position is available for the CERIC-ERIC project “LEMIS” aiming to adopt and improve existing Ion Beam Analysis (IBA) techniques for their optimal use in the analysis of materials of importance to energy storage.
The successful candidate will be responsible for upgrading and optimizing the ion microprobe setup at RBI, which utilizes dual microprobe and a suite of Ion Beam Analysis (IBA) techniques for the elemental analysis and imaging of energy storage materials, with the focus on detection of light elements and monitoring of electrochemical processes.

The research will be conducted primarily at the accelerator facility of the Ruđer Bošković institute (RBI) managed by the Laboratory for ion beam interactions, Experimental physics division of RBI in Zagreb, Croatia.Part of the experimental work will be done at Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste, partner facility within the CERIC-ERIC consortium.

Skills/Qualifications

Skills/Qualifications

We require a Master or equivalent degree in physics. The successful candidate should have a degree in physics and have an obligation to enroll to a PhD studies in physics. Therefore, the candidates should have GPA not lower than 80% of the maximum possible, i.e. to allow direct enrolment in the PhD studies.


Specific Requirements

Specifically, the ideal candidate should have:

– Experience with experimental physics practices and methodologies;
– Fluent English, both written and spoken, is essential (minimum B2 level), and knowledge of additional languages is an advantage.
Additional Qualifications

– Knowledge and experience in the application of Ion Beam Analysis techniques;
– Knowledge about material analysis;
– Experience in programming (i.e. Python, MATLAB, etc.).

The following competencies are considered a plus:

– Strong affinity for experimental work;
– Capacity for independent and creative approach in solving tasks;
– Interpersonal and collaboration skills for work in the interdisciplinary team.
