Selection for admission to the 42nd cycle (a.y. 2026/27) of the PhD Programme in “European Cultures. Environment, Contexts, Histories, Arts, Ideas” – curricula: Philosophy, Cultural Heritage, History.

The scholarships are financed as follows:
- n. 7 scholarships financed by the University of Trento;
- n. 1 scholarship financed by Fondazione Bruno Kessler on the topic "Travellers’ interactions in early modern Italy / Interazioni di viaggiatori nell’Italia dell'età moderna", Progetto TRAVEL' (FIS-2023-02909), CUP (C53C25000710001).

Eligibility criteria

Applications for admission to the PhD Programme are accepted from candidates, regardless of gender, age, religion or nationality, who hold an Italian “Laurea Magistrale” (according to Ministerial Decree no. 270 of 22 October 2004), or a university degree awarded under the previous regulations, or a second level degree awarded by an Italian “AFAM” Institute or an equivalent degree qualification gained abroad and considered suitable by the Admission Committee. Applications are also accepted from candidates who expect to obtain their degree/equivalent qualification abroad, by 27 May 2026. In this case admission is "conditional" and applicants must submit the degree certificate to the PhD Office - Cognitive, Social Sciences and Humanities no later than 3 June 2026. Failure to provide the degree certificate or the self-declaration as allowed for by the Presidential Decree (n. 445 of 28 December 2000) will lead to forfeiture of grant and position.

Selection process

The selection exams are intended to assess the applicant’s preparation and aptitude towards scientific research with specific reference to the chosen research topic.

The selection consists of:
- assessment of curriculum vitae, qualifications and evaluation of the research proposal according to Art. 4 of the announcement;
- oral exam (in Italian). It will focus on the applicant’s knowledge of the subject of the research proposal and the evaluation of the language skills as requested in the announcement.

The interview will take place, at the candidate's choice, either in attendance at the University of Trento or by videoconference.
