Ben Norton Learning Potential Fund Rural Scholarship

What you'll receive

You'll receive a scholarship valued at $5,000 for one year, paid in two instalments of $2,500.

This scholarship is offered in Semester 1 each year.


Eligibility

You must be one of the following:

  • an Australian citizen (including dual citizens)
  • a permanent resident of Australia
  • a permanent humanitarian visa holder
  • a New Zealand citizen.

You must also be:

  • from a low-income background
  • experiencing financial hardship
  • enrolled in or applying for either:
    • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical)
    • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Electrical)
  • from a regional, rural, or remote area.

This scholarship is not available to:

  • single-unit study students - studying an individual unit at QUT, but not enrolled in a QUT course
  • cross-institutional students - enrolled in a course at another university, but studying specific units at QUT and receiving credit towards your course at the other university
  • QUT College students - studying one of the pathway programs offered by our international college, including foundation courses, university diplomas and English language courses.

All applications are assessed against selection criteria. We allocate scholarships based on need. Students with the greatest need will receive the highest value scholarships.


About the scholarship

The Learning Potential Fund provides support through scholarships and bursaries to students in financial need.

The Ben Norton Learning Potential Fund Scholarship was established by Kim Norton in 2024 in memory of her husband Ben Norton. The scholarship supports an undergraduate student from a rural area to undertake studies in either a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical) or a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Electrical).
